Making Room for Christmas

It was wonderful to have a week off and then a few days with the children before school started. It's great to have them home but routine is nice also. Yesterday we took down the Christmas tree and most of the decorations around the house. We were able to
declutter the decorations a bit but still somehow managed to need to add a bin of decorations. How did that happen? (Oh wait! It's from my parents throwing stuff our way as they downsized!! At least they passed on nice items and I could get rid of some of our more falling apart ones).

Today I've got the decluttering bug thanks to all those home organizing new years resolution blog posts (if you made one, thank you for sharing it!). All those McDonald's toys and Kinder Surprise toys sure add up but after a while get forgotten into little corners and drawers. Plus paper. Little people LOVE to use paper and tape. It's crazy how much there is in my daughter's room alone!! I love their art but there is a limit to how much we can keep.

The motivation for clearing out the house also gets added to knowing that a charity truck is coming next Monday for a pick-up. Although next Monday seems really far from now it's going to be here before I know it and I want to make sure that there is a large donation waiting for them :)

I am also motivated because before Christmas I decluttered and the house felt very large with less things! It was also more pleasurable to clean it as it was much faster.

Finally, I think the kids are overwhelmed with all the gifts from Christmas as they are getting mixed in with all the other toys that they haven't really played with in a while. Plus we have January and March birthday's coming so I have even more incentive to make room for those new gifts.

Are you decluttering to welcome the new year and find spaces for your new Christmas treasures?
